HSL Operations Updates

What is happening? 

The HSL Commons is getting an upgrade as part of the T-Wing renovation project that’s affecting several floors of the Magnuson T-Wing. As part of this, all chairs, tables, computers, screens, etc. from the Commons/classrooms must be removed prior to May 10. This space will be unavailable to users from early May – December. We plan to set up a small lab with 3-6 computers on the second floor of the library, in T216.

When is it happening? 

Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-May and last through December. Updates will continue to be available at this page.

How will HSL spaces be affected? 

The testing center will be closed during this time, and the Commons area will be closed. Plastic sheeting will be up, preventing access to the Commons space. We’re still not sure about access to the 3^rd floor bathrooms during this time.

There will no doubt be construction-related noise during this timeframe. However, we’ll do our best to inform everyone about impact as we get information from the construction crews.

The UW Management Accounting & Analysis Office is conducting an anonymous survey to determine how library services and materials are used. Data collected will be used to meet federal reporting requirements.

Cost Study FAQ

UW users may access HSL by tapping their Husky card on the card reader at the 2nd floor entrance (T-227) or via the 3rd floor entrance during open hours.

UW Health Sciences students with after-hours access can continue to enjoy this privilege. See the FAQ page for more information.
