Cabinet Portfolio: Health Sciences

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Health Sciences, the Health Sciences Library is made up of five departments serving six health science schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Social Work), UW Medicine, WWAMI , HEALWA , and the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5 .

Departments

Clinical Research & Data Services (Director: Electra Enslow) is an innovative group of librarians that supports students, faculty, and staff in providing timely, evidence-based literature for the Health Sciences. This includes providing equitable clinical information across the WWAMI region. Our reach is felt throughout the Health Sciences at UW. Our programming supports Open Access, Data Management, and Research Impact through providing high-quality workshops and webinars. Our work is increasingly interdisciplinary as our Health Sciences Schools grow increasingly interdisciplinary. Through a lens of servant leadership and social justice, we provide consultations to constituents and thoughtful, high-value collection development, co-author peer-reviewed publications, and write grants with health sciences faculty.

HEALWA (Director: Patricia Devine) consists of two areas: HEALWA and Print and Electronic Resources. HEALWA is an innovative program to provide access to evidence-based resources to selected healthcare providers in Washington State. Created by legislation and funded by a portion of the license fees of the included professions, HEALWA serves practitioners working in rural settings, private practice, and smaller hospitals and clinics which would otherwise not have access to current and authoritative resources. The Print and Electronic Resources department manages streaming media, print and electronic books and journals, cataloging, and collection management for the UW Health Sciences Library. This includes updating eBook and eVideo content on the HSL website, troubleshooting customer access issues, and updating holdings for Interlibrary Loan and resource sharing. Print and Electronic Resources staff support the Collections and Selections Librarians with usage statistics, pricing information, and placing orders.

User Experience, Facilities & Administration (Head: Hendeke Araya) consists of User Experience and Administrative Services. Facilities Manager: Hendeke Araya; Head, User Experience: Margaret Holt.

Systems (Director: Adam Garrett) includes Web Team, Windows, Desktop, Security & Linux Support, and HSL Commons Computer Lab .
